Create a Street Cleanup in your neighborhood

We are currently in beta-test mode version of our new website. As funding comes through, this page will allow you to create your own street cleanup in your favorite destination (Neighborhood, Park, Trail etc) and invite the public, your friends via Social Media avenues etc. We hope to have hundreds of street cleanups created on a weekly basis, which will not only improve living conditions on land, but also our waterways. In the meantime, feel free to organize your own Street Cleanup and then post your images on https://www.facebook.com/drainstoocean and tag #drainstoocean and @drainstoocean.  To be informed when this page goes live, signup on our newsletter at the top or bottom of this page.

Remember: a Clean Street = a Clean Ocean.

Drains to Ocean is a grass roots, non-profit organization with a mission to keep pollution from flowing into our rivers, lakes, and oceans. We believe that Ocean Pollution Issues start at our very own doorsteps, so lets start cleaning up our own gutters and prevent litter from ever reaching the ocean. You're in charge! Create your own street cleanup in your neighborhood today!

Q&A's Below:

Q: Do I need a permit to clean the street in my neighborhood?
A: Not necessarily, but always use extreme caution and use the buddy system when cleaning gutters. Never attempt to pickup litter that is on the highway as you risk of being hit by oncoming traffic. You are on your own so please be safe. (Private Communities may require a permit to cleanup the neighborhood, its up to you to check with them 1st)

Q: Should we use plastic bags to pickup litter from the streets?
A: We always suggest "not" using plastic bags as they are One Time Use Plastic (not reusable). A good way to pickup litter is by bringing a reusable bucket or reusable grocery bag (always wash these after litter has been inside them). Wholefoods and Mothers carry Biodegradable Plastic waste bags that can be filled up at the end of your street cleanup. We also encourage the use of reusable gloves for safety.

Q. Can we create Beach Cleanups from your website?
A. That is a big NO. You cannot create a beach cleanup from the D2O website. All City and State beaches require permits for running beach cleanups. We suggest you visit our friends over at Surfrider.org to find a beach cleanup near you. Note: D2O sponsors multiple beach cleanups in Huntington Beach each year. Visit www.hsbsurfrider.org for more info.

Enjoy your street cleanup, be safe, and just know you are doing something good for our earth.
