Education Through Art

Seth Matson, founder of the Drains to Ocean, hosts the “Saltwater” exhibit at the ARTery in Costa Mesa each year.

“Saltwater” is an Artshow featuring over 20 beach-loving, surf-inspired artists and photographers from San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County. This Eco-Artshow is held annually in Costa Mesa on World Oceans Day. The show features work ranging from eco-art created from beach trash to paintings that capture seaside landscapes on canvas.

Among those selected are Huntington Beach painter Rick Blake; Cameron Calderon, Bradie Shemke, Michael Torquato DeNicola, an L.A.-based artist who does abstract surfboard art; and ex-pro skater Jose Cerda, who specializes in pop art.

The art show supports local artists, highlights environmental issues, and aims to inspire locals to become more aware of their environmental impact. Locals can showcase their work and raise awareness. In addition to the art show and educational booth, this event also includes a local neighborhood cleanup around the venue.

The “Saltwater” exhibit typically has a suggested donation of $5, with proceeds going to fund beach, street, and mountain clean-ups organized by D2O.
